KOCHI: A total of around 19,000 students were admitted to the first standard in various schools in the district this academic year, said officials of the Deputy Director of Education (DDE). According to DDE officials, the actual number of new students joining schools would be known only by the end of the week.

A total of 377 students were admitted in various schools in Muvattupuzha (168 girls and 189 boys) on Monday, when they re-opened after the summer vacation. The number of new students who joined government schools was 84. The number of students admitted in unaided schools was 266, while 7 students were admitted in unaided schools.

In Kothamangalam, a total of 594 new students were  admitted in various schools, (279 girls and 315 boys). A total of 169 students were admitted in government schools, and 121 students were admitted in aided schools. In unaided schools in Kothamangalam, at least 304 new admissions were registered. In Ernakulam, a total of  1476 students were admitted in the first standard (828 girls and 648 boys).  In government schools, 141 students were registered, while 1157 students were registered in aided schools. In unaided schools, a total of 178 new students sought admission.

In the schools under the Mattancherry AEO, 1566 students were admitted in the first grade (833 girls and 733 boys). A total of 76 students got entry in government schools, while 1459 students were admitted in aided schools. In Mattanchery, 31 students were admitted in unaided schools.

In Tripunithura, a total of  1156 students were admitted in the first grade (599 girls, 557 boys). Of this, 199 students were enrolled in government schools. While 836 students joined aided schools, 121 students were admitted in unaided schools.  In Vypeen, a total of 1176 students (622 girls and 554 boys) sought admission to the first grade. In government schools, 81 students were enrolled, while 1014 students were enrolled in aided schools.

In Koothattukulam, a total of 321 students were admitted in various schools (166 girls and 155 boys). Of this, 155 students got admission in government schools, and 166 in aided schools. In Kalloorkkad, a total of 343 students were registered in various schools (168 girls and 175 boys). As many as 42 students got admission in government schools, and 301 in aided schools.

In Piravom, 282 students were admitted in the first grade (129 girls and 153 boys). Of this, 128 students joined government schools and 124 students in aided schools. In the unaided sector, 30 new students were enrolled. In Kolenchery, 797 students were admitted in the first standard (318 girls and 416 boys). In government schools, 426 students were admitted, while 215 students were admitted in aided schools. In unaided schools, 156 students were admitted.

In Aluva, of the 1852 students who registered to join the first standard (956 girls and 896 boys), 31 students were admitted in government schools, 1161 students in unaided schools, and 376 students in aided schools.

In Angamaly, 1378 students were admitted in schools (676 girls and 702 boys), with 425 students getting admission in government schools, 783 students in aided schools, and 222 students in unaided schools.

In North Paravoor, a total of 1666 students were admitted ( 834 girls and 832 boys) in the first grade. Of this, 478 students were admitted in government schools, 830 students in aided schools, and 358 students in unaided schools. In Perumbavoor, 1434 new students were admitted in various schools (679 girls and 755 boys), of which 640 students were admitted in government schools, 501 students in aided schools, and 295 students in unaided schools.

In Kothamamgalam, a total of 1679 students were admitted in the first standard, of which 864 were girls and 815 boys. In government schools, 534 students were admitted, and 57 students were admitted in aided schools. In unaided schools, 88 students were admitted.

Last year, the total number of students who had registered in the first grade was 20,184.

There were no admissions to the first grade in unaided schools in Vypeen, Koothattukulam and Kalloorkkad.

Elamkunnapuzha grama panchayat vice-president Benny Bernard inaugurated the ‘Praveshanolsavam’ ceremony at the  Government UP School at Puthuvype. Study materials and kits were distributed to the students. Headmistress Ashalatha, PTA Committee member Bhaskaran and BRC coordinator Ravi spoke.
