A Sumptuous Feast for Foodies

Onam, the harvest festival, is the most popular festivals of Kerala which is celebrated by people from all communities. And on this occasion, Vivanta by Taj - Malabar, celebrates Onam in its true traditional form at Pepper - the all day dining restaurant on August 28.

The elaborate menu will include banana, bananna chips, sharkaravaratty, mango pickle, pachadi, inji puli, kaalan, thoran, erussery, Kerala rice, dal and ghee, koottu curry, olan and avial. For the non-vegetarians, the menu will have non vege dishes too. The sadya will be served from 12.30pm to 3.00 pm and is priced at Rs 1350 plus taxes and an additional Rs 250 plus taxes for non vegetarian options.

On third Onam, The Pepper will welcome the guests with a lip-smacking south Indian buffet dinner, priced at Rs 1350 plus taxes, from 7.30 pm to 11 pm.

Crowne Plaza

A grand Onam sadya in the traditional way would be arranged on August 28 at Trilogy Restaurant, Crowne Plaza Kochi. The feast will be served on plantain leaf with 21 dishes including few signature dishes of chef Rejimon. The sadya will be served between 12 noon to 3 pm and is priced at Rs 895+taxes.

Woodlands Hotel

A tantalising spread of Onam delicacies is spread at Rangoli restaurant in Woodlands. Onasadya is offered for the foodies till August 28 from 12 noon to 2.30 pm. The sadya will have mouthwatering dishes including parippu, sambar, avial, thoran, koottukari, kalan, kichidi, olan, pachadi, pappadam, pickles with 2 varieties of payasams every day. The hotle invites the guests for a grand Thiruvona sadya featuring Kerala dishes like parippu & ghee, papad, sambar, avial, thoran, kaalan, pachadi, olan, koottukari, theeyal, rasam, kaalan, upperi, sharkaravartti with three varieties of payasams like palada, parippu pradhaman and ada pradhaman. Celebrate Thiruvonam in its great joy and splendour at Hotel Yuvarani Residency. Guests will be welcomed with pookalam, onapattukal and ela sadya. Ela sadya will start at 11.30 am till 3.30 pm. The sadya is priced at Rs 375 plus taxes. The buffet spread also includes kappa and meen vattichathu, special vegetable soup, kallappam and chicken curry. The sadya is priced at Rs 400 plus tax.

 Take away option is also there at the special counter from 11 am onwards. It is priced at Rs 375 plus tax. Parippu payasam and palada payasam are available on thiruvonam day for Rs 225 a litre. Renai Cochin

Onam is celebrated with lot of pomp and glory by Malayalis across the world. Joining these celebrations, The Renai Cochin will be serving a grand Onasadya on Friday, August 28 from 12 noon to 2.30 pm in addition to the usual meals. The lunch will be served at Gazeebo. Maveli will welcome and escort the guests to the venue of grand Onasadya.

The sadya will have all the traditional Kerala dishes like upperi, kaalan, pachadi, kichadi, olan, avial, thoran, mezhukkupuratty, erussery, kootu curry, sambar, pappadam, pazham and choices of payasams. Payasamela at Abad

Onam is indeed synonymous with onasadya and no sadya is complete without different varieties of payasams.

Abad Canopy’s Payasa Mela, serves a wide variety of payasams. From the traditional parippu payasam (made using moong dal, coconut milk, cardamom and sweetened with jaggery),  to the king of payasams, palada payasam (prepared with rice ada, milk and sugar) and the exotic pazha pradhaman (made using ripened nenthra pazham, jaggery and coconut milk) are there for the mela.Payasams are sold by the cup in Canopy and one litre carry home packs are sold through special counters at Cafe Canopy at Abad Plaza, Hotel Abad at Chullickal, Bay Pride Mall on Marine Drive, and Nucleus Mall at Maradu from 11 am to 8 pm.
