CUSAT Joins Global League OF VARSITIES

It is now part of South Asia Anglia, a network initiated by Anglia Ruskin University as part of an education project launched by British Council

KOCHI: Opening up new avenues for students, Cochin  University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has joined the South Asia Anglia partnership for an initiative to bring universities in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to focus on the internationalisation of student learning experience.

Kolkata University, Mumbai University and Mysore University are the three other higher education institutions which are already part of this league, which is supported by the British Council.

The partnership is aimed at reducing the cost of overseas education. For example, an undergraduate engineering programme enables students to study for three years in India and the final year in the UK and a specialised MBA where students study one year in India and complete the course at Anglia Ruskin University.

CUSAT joined the initiative following a discussion conducted by CUSAT Pro-VC K Paulose Jacob with Anglia Ruskin University Vice-Chancellor Michael Thorne. The PVC was in London to attend the Going Global-2015 Conference, an initiative of the British Council.

“CUSAT was invited to join the network of universities. Students will get the benefit of this tie-up from 2015-16 academic year onwards. South Asia Anglia Ruskin is a network of universities initiated by the Anglia Ruskin University as part of the transnational education project launched by the British Council,’’ said CUSAT PVC K Paulose Jacob.

‘“Going Global’ is a forum for education where world leaders debate issues affecting international higher education to formulate collaborative solutions. It is considered to be the world’s largest gathering of leaders in education. Discussions were also held on professional doctorate programmes that allow researchers to gain expertise while continuing to work in their respective universities and countries, student and faculty exchange programmes and joint research programmes in a variety of areas,”  he said.
