2 Held for Marriage Fraud, Cheating

KOCHI: The Maradu Police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old man, along with his accomplice, for swindling money and gold from a women after marrying her.

According to police officials, Sanalkumar of Mylapra in Pathanamthitta and Suresh Babu, 52, of Manjumman near Eloor were arrested based on a complaint filed by a woman hailing from Nettoor. The probe into the matrimonial cheating case revealed that the duo had duped several women across the State in similar manner. The complainant alleged that Sanalkumar, who claimed to be Naval officer, contacted her after seeing a matrimonial advertisement and offered to marry her. The couple got married at a temple with the help of Suresh Babu. After the marriage, Sanalkumar allegedly stole the bride’s ATM card and withdrew Rs 5 lakh from her account. Subsequently, he went into hiding after stealing her gold ornaments also. The police took Sanalkumar into custody at Thiruvalla, where he was living with another woman, impersonating as Thomas, after marrying her. Within a few days after marriage, he had duped the woman of nine sovereigns of gold and Rs 30,000. According to the police, he had also molested a 14-year-old girl while working in a private firm at Kalamassery. Suresh Babu, who befriended Sanal Kumar in jail, helped him in his illegal activities, including impersonating priests.

Several duping cases are pending against the duo at various police stations.
