SUTP Selects Detailed Project Report for Water Transport

KOCHI: The Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) has selected the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared for the Integrated Water Transport (IWT) in the city by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) as one of the best DPRs submitted in the last three years in public transport initiatives.

SUTP evaluated such public transport initiatives submitted in the last three years and selected IWT for Kochi as one among the best four proposals.

“This may leverage KMRL’s vision for a seamless integration of public transport modes within Kochi and foster the prospect of the city to become one among the 20 smart cities to be selected by the Government of India in the coming days,”according to a statement issued by the KMRL.

SUTP is a Government of India initiative to foster long-term partnership between Government of India and state and local governments to implement a greener urban transport eco-system under the ambit of the National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP).

SUTP consists of capacity building programmes and city demonstration projects, aiming to induce a major change in the urban transport in India. SUTP is supported by the India Government through MoU between Global Environment Fund (GEF), World Bank and United Nations Development Agency (UNDP).
