KOCHI: Cooking. Driving. Kudumbashree, the women’s self-help group in the state, members have left their imprint in diverse areas. Now, the Kudumbashree ink will be on writing too. They are all set to bring out a travelogue, detailing the experience of their journeys across the state. It is a part of their project - ‘Women and Mobility’ aiming to promote gender self- learning.

“This is a novel project by the Kudumbashree. As a part of this initiative, selected women from each district will visit a chosen place. They will click pictures and will prepare a report containing their travel experience. The travelogue will be based on this. The highlight of the travel will be discussions with experts on issues that people of a certain locality face,” said Shine, gender consultant, Kudumbashree. The tour will begin in December and end in March.

“A 30-member group has already visited the Boothathankettu in Ernakulam. As the project is part of the gender self-learning programme, they have no external help. This will help women tread public space without apprehensions,” he said.

Shine said the trip would help them explore fresh enterprenuership opportunities. “Since they have been asked to study the landscape of areas they travel, the group will be able to analyse the local market and the possibility of extending business to the city area,” he said. They also plan to hold a photo exhibition post the expedition. “We have planned next trip to Muziris, the excavation area in Kodungalloor,” he said.
