KOCHI: At a time when kidnapping of children in the city is making headlines, the city police on Friday constituted a special team under Deputy Commissioner of Police Arul R B Krishna to inquire into the alleged kidnapping racket managed by migrants here.

‘Express’ had, on Tuesday, reported about children missing in the city and the state. Kochi Range IG S Sreejith said the team will look into complaints in this regard.

Migrants spotted in mysterious circumstances will be under police scanner. Recently, reports about movement of suspicious persons in West Kochi had come out, leaving parents scared. The other day, locals stopped two migrant women at Thoppumpady over suspicions about their links with an abduction racket.

However, only one was arrested under IPC Section 363 (A) during investigation of the alleged kidnapping.
Police had also inquired three cases, only to find out that children themselves hatched their kidnapping to mislead their parents for some reason, said officials. They added that the police control room should be promptly alerted about any suspicious activity and assured that the alerts would be acted upon immediately.
