KOCHI: Joseph Pichanadu has been inventing people-friendly gadgets for decades. His first, a concrete-cement printing press was build in the 1970’s, a few years after he completed his degree in History from Andhra University. Soon after, he was on a steady roll, constantly building machines and equipments including a crutch which could be converted into a chair, a seat-cum-bed for cerebral palsy children among others. A few months ago, his ‘honey-processing machine’ which helps farmers to prepare and store honey has been well-received by the farmer and agriculture fraternity in Kerala.
His latest, is the filter-cum-controller 5-in-1, which has been invented to ensure households in Kerala receive germ-free water. According to him, the filter can be fitted to all rain-water harvesting tanks, which is available in a majority of Malayalee homes.
“Most often, people procastinate cleaning their water tanks because of the difficulties involved in the procedure. Finding a labourer to clean the tank is quite difficult in this day and time. Also, one would have to get down into the tank to clear it. The filter, if fitted on the neck of the tank can easily solve the problem,” he says.
