KOCHI: The six students, who were radicalised and converted to Islam at the Peace International School, Kochi, belonged to the Christian community, it has been revealed. Investigators said the students hailing from Knanaya Catholic, Marthoma and Syrian Catholic communities are being targeted by the specially-trained teachers.

They convinced the students that the ancestors of these Christian communities were once followers of Islam and were converted to Christianity after the Crusade in 15th century, said an investigation officer. The converted people are more radical than those following the religion of their birth and this prompted the management to target people from other communities, especially Christians, said the officer.

The investigating officer said there are 11 teachers imparting lessons on Islamic Studies, and all of them are from Bihar. Teachers are recruited from outside Kerala in order to keep confidential the teaching of objectionable content, which is from outside the syllabus.

An inquiry has been initiated to check the background of the teachers from Bihar, the officer said. Earlier, Express reportedKOCHI: that students and even management committee members were radicalised and converted to Islam by the school authorities.
