6 CITU men held for attacking car dealer

The Kochi City Police on Thursday arrested six persons affiliated to the CITU for allegedly beating up a dealer of pre-owned cars at Edappally and damaging his properties.

KOCHI: The Kochi City Police on Thursday arrested six persons affiliated to the CITU for allegedly beating up a dealer of pre-owned cars at Edappally and damaging his properties.
The arrested have been identified as Mahesh, a former CPM councillor of the Kochi Corporation, Mohammed Basheer, Rajesh, Niju, all natives of Edappally; Gireesh of Elamakkara and Ponekkara-native Krishnakumar.
The police action came after media reports alleged inaction on the part of the police against the CITU members who barged into Kondody Car World and assaulted its owner Tom and staff on Monday.

According to the police, the showroom functioning on Railway Station Road at Edappally was attacked after the owner declined to take back a car sold to a customer and refund its value.
Meanwhile, the CITU suspended three members of its district committee who were involved in the incident.  CITU district secretary Manishanker told mediapersons that a directive was issued to all CITU members not to involve  in unlawful activities.
