Curtains to come down on Lisie Hospital jubilee fete tomorrow

The year-long diamond jubilee celebrations of Lisie Hospital will culminate with a public function at Town Hall here on Saturday. 

KOCHI: The year-long diamond jubilee celebrations of Lisie Hospital will culminate with a public function at Town Hall here on Saturday.  Supreme Court Judge Justice Kurian Joseph  will inaugurate the function, which will be presided over by Syro-Malabar Church head Mar George Cardinal Alencherry.

Hospital director Fr Mathew Vaikathuparampil will welcome the gathering, while Bishop Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath will present a brief chronicle of the Hospital. Education Minister C Raveendranath will be the chief guest.  Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will dedicate Lisie Heart Institute to the public. Verapoly Archbishop Francis Kakllarackal will inaugurate the renovated pharmaceutical unit, and Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal will release the diamond jubilee souvenir.

At the function, Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain will make declaration of the Green OT accreditation, and K V Thomas MP will honour doctors who have completed 25 years of service at the hospital. Staff members who have completed 25 years of service will be honoured by Roji John MLA, and the Lisie Hospital transplant team will be honoured by V K Ibrahim Kunu MLA.

Other announcements will be the Lisie Cancer Institute and Research Centre by S Sarma MLA and the new campus of the Pharmacy College at Vennala by P T Thomas MLA. Archdiocese pro vicar general Monsignor Sebastian Vadakumpadan will distribute scholarships, while councillor Gracy Joseph will present the merit awards. “Lisie Cancer Institute and Research Centre, proposed to be set up at a cost of `300 crore, is the major expansion project we envisage in the jubilee year. The centre will come up in the space where the OP block was functioning earlier, offering treatment at affordable cost. Foundation stone for the 10-storey building complex, which is expected to be constructed in two years, will be laid by Cardinal Alencherry. “The jubilee year was marked by a number of charity activities including 100 free heart surgeries, and medical camps,” said Fr Vaikathuparampil at a press conference.
