KOCHI: Kochi will observe April 26, the international noise pollution awareness day as the ‘No Horn Day’. No Horn Day is being observed to make people aware about the ill-effects of noise pollution.

“Though today manufacturers bring out vehicles which emit sound less than 55 decibels, youngsters tend to modify the structure in order to bring the decibel levels to 100,” said Sadiq Ali, RDO.

“Noise pollution leads to hearing loss, lack of concentration and other health issues like blood pressure, acidity, stress. This problem not only affects the drivers but also the passengers, roadside residents and traffic police. The public are hardly aware about the consequences,” he said.

A function has been organised to mark the ‘No Horn Day’ in the city. IG P Vijayan will be the chief guest. The programme will be officially inaugurated at SN Fuel petrol pump, Edapally.

The programme is being organized by the IMA in association with National Initiative for Safe Sound (NISS), Transport Department, Kerala Police and Tourism Department.

Organisers said the law passed in Parliament against noise pollution wasn’t successful in checking noise pollution. Police, MVD and the state government should work together to make it a reality.
