Woman stabbed to death by lover on Cherai beach

A 30-year-old woman was stabbed to death on Friday by her lover who doubted she was cheating on him.

KOCHI: A 30-year-old woman was stabbed to death on Friday by her lover who doubted she was cheating on him. Sheethal, a resident of Muttinakam at Varapuzha, was attacked on Cherai beach near here.
Within an hour, the Munambam police arrested Prasanth, 28, of Nedumkunnam in Kottayam in connection with the murder. He was nabbed based on the revelations made by Sheethal just before she succumbed to her injuries while on the way to a hospital.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10.30 am when the duo reached the beach after offering prayers at a nearby temple. “On the beach, Prasanth asked Sheethal to close her eyes  saying he has a surprise gift for her. He then stabbed her more than five times,” said K B Prabhulla Chandran, DySP, Aluva.

“Injured, Sheethal ran to a nearby resort. Though the resort’s employees and locals rushed her to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries,” Chandran said.Sheethal had been living separately from her husband following a dispute. The couple has a six-year-old child.“For the past one year, Prasanth has been staying as a tenant  on the first floor of the victim’s house. On questioning, the accused revealed they were in a relationship. However, he was suspicious that Sheethal was having another affair as she had been receiving several calls and messages on her mobile.  

Though he enquired about it, she refused to say anything. Irked, he decided to kill her,” Chandran said. “ This is a clear case of vengeance. We have filed a case under section 302. We will produce the accused before the court on Saturday,” said the police.Prashanth has been been working as a cable network technician at Varappuzha.
