KOCHI: A mini marathon of 10 km was conducted to raise awareness on organ donation, an Organ Donation day, as part of the social initiatives associated with Excel 2017, the annual techno managerial festival of Govt Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara.The event was held in association with Yes Bank, Gold’s Gym, Medical Trust Hospital and Radio Mirchi. About 800 participants, including students and working professionals took part in the mini marathon. The event was flagged off from the Port Trust ground, Wellington island by cine actor Roshan Mathew.

The run went through Thevara, MG road and concluded at Marine Drive, where the Valedictory ceremony was held. Hibi Eden, MLA,  Sreekumar AS, Assistant Manager, Yes bank, Vyttila branch, Joseph Anamkutty Jose, RJ, Radio mirchi, Renil Raj, Gold’s Gym, Arjun Saju, Chairman, Excel 2017, attended the event. “It’s refreshing to see that engineering students are taking such relevant and socially benefitting initiatives”, said Hibi Eden, MLA.

The first prize was bagged by Mahesh P S, who finished the 10 km run in just 40 minutes.Shraddha Dave, from Mumbai was the first woman to finish the marathon. The winners were awarded the membership worth Rs 60,000 sponsored by Gold’s Gym. Sreejith and Prince Mathew came second and third in the overall run respectively. T U Paulose, a man of seventy who completed the run, was honoured as well.

In the 10 km mini marathon conducted by the Govt Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, the first prize was bagged by Mahesh P S.  Shraddha Dave, from Mumbai, was the first woman to finish the marathon
