KOCHI: With the cinema theatre complex equipped with two state-of-the-art screens built by the Kerala State Film Development Corporation  (KSFDC) at North Paravoor scheduled for inauguration on Saturday, the number of screens under the government-run corporation will go up to 15. Along with the enhanced viewing experience, the new facility will enable cine-goers to watch movies without ticket rates burning a hole in the pocket. The two screens have been built at a cost of Rs 4 crore after splitting the Chitranjali Theatre.  Of the two, the bigger one with a seating capacity of 350 will be ‘Kairali’ and the smaller one with 245 seats will be ‘Sree’. Both the screens are equipped with 2K projection, 7.1 surround system, silver screen, plum push back seats, LED display boards along with quality interiors and air-conditioned  halls.

Online reservation system, large parking area, modern-style toilets, canteen and  generators to provide uninterrupted power are the other features of the theatre complex.  However, what makes these theatres unique is the affordability factor - the most pricey ticket costs a modest Rs100.  A K Balan, Minister for Cultural Affairs and Law, will inaugurate the theatre complex at the function to be held at 5 pm with MLA V D Satheesan presiding.  K V Thomas MP, MLA  S Sharma and municipal chairperson Ramesh D Kurup will participate in the meeting.  KSFDC chairman  Lenin Rajendran will welcome the gathering.

The number of screens will be increased by adding two screens to each of the existing ones and setting up new ones at 28 locations.Presently, the KSFDC has a triple screen complex in Thiruvananthapuram, twin screen complexes at Kozhikode, Thrissur, Alappuzha and Cherthala along with single screens in Thiruvananthapuram and Chittoor. The single screens also will be turned into split ones  as part of the expansion plan soon.
