About 48 cases settled at State Women’s Commission adalat in Kochi

The State Women’s Commission (SWC) adalat at the Cauvery Hall here  chaired by its chief M C  Josephine settled 48 out of the total of 103 cases registered.

KOCHI: The State Women’s Commission (SWC) adalat at the Cauvery Hall here chaired by its chief M C  Josephine settled 48 out of the total of 103 cases registered.

The panel called for a  police report in 19 grievances. Besides, seven cases were forwarded for the RDO’s report while six cases were referred for counselling.

The  commission also deferred the hearing in 11 cases until the next adalat and in 12 cases both the parties were not present. It was with the plea to allow her to reside in her husband’s house and ensure alimony for her child a 22-year-old woman from Aluva appeared before the commission.

The woman said her husband is trying to avoid her claiming he was misled by her family into marrying her. The commission asked the woman’s in-laws to allow her to stay in their house. 

They were also directed to pay maintenance to the woman and her child.In another case, a woman lodged a complaint against her mother-in-law and brother-in-law for victimising her.  She said they were pressuring her to hand over her husband’s  assets. This case was referred to the police by the commission.

Later Josephine said there has been a rise in the number of cases related to property dispute, “Many women are coming up with grievances in connection with the property dispute.  Access to property, land dispute and similar issues are the basis of such complaints, We  refer such cases to the RDO,” she said.
