KOCHI: ‘Cocoon’, the six-day animation workshop hosted by School of Communication, Sacred Heart College, concluded here on Saturday. Led by animator and screenwriter Prosenjit Ganguly, the workshop provided the students with the much-needed industrial experience.“We have to realise the fact animation is not merely a platform for creating humour. It has now evolved into a language which can reflect serious social issues,” Ganguly said.

The third season of the annual workshop, which has its theme ‘concept to creation’, had technical and practical sessions on stop-motion animation and shadow animation. “It was indeed a novel experience. We were divided into teams for preparing animation jingles. From storyboarding to post-production, each part was practically explored with guidance,” said Mishal, a participant.

At the end of the workshop, a motivational puppetry show by therapeutic puppetry artist Krishnakumar showcased the art of creative expression. The concluding session had a talk on emerging scope and challenges in design, led by Sarun Sasi, a user experience design expert. “It’s good to see they are getting the right exposure. Workshops like this will give them the right foundation and insight into future ventures,” said Malu Mohan, faculty representative of the programme. She said the practical works submitted by the students were appealing.
