39-year-old woman gets double life imprisonment for killing kids

The North Paravoor Additional District and Sessions Court-II on Saturday awarded double life imprisonment to a 39-yearold woman who killed her two children by throwing them into Moolampilly River.

KOCHI: The North Paravoor Additional District and Sessions Court-II on Saturday awarded double life imprisonment to a 39-yearold woman who killed her two children by throwing them into Moolampilly River following a family feud. The court also slapped a fine of `5,000 on Kochuthresia aka Sindhu, who was convicted of murdering her children sevenyear- old Sherry and four-year-old Shone.

The incident occurred at 8 pm on December 4, 2015. Kochuthresia, who went missing after the incident, was found in the river the next morning. According to her, after throwing the children into the river, she tried to commit suicide by jumping into the water. As per the chargesheet, Kochuthresia and kids were found missing after their meeting with her husband Michael around 7.30 pm the same day. An inquiry by the then North Paravur CI S Jayakrishnan into the missing case registered at Varapuzha police shed light on the murder of the kids.

Her story was found to be made up as the doctors who examined her found no indication of her surviving the turbulent current in the river for about 10 hours. Besides, the doctors found there was no substance in her claims she had jumped into the river from a height of over 30 feet as she had not sustained any injuries, despite the fact Kochuthresia lacks swimming skills.
