Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar reveals secret on tennis elbow

Sachin’s revelation came during the inaugural function of the Sports Medicine centre at Aster Medicity hospital on Thursday.

KOCHI: In India, tennis elbow is often mentioned in connection with Sachin Tendulkar. It was this painful medical condition, in which the muscles connecting the forearm and the elbow become tender and sore due to overuse, that threatened the master blaster’s career. However, he was not the only Indian cricketer to be afflected.

Throwing open the door for guesses and giving a peek into the dressing room of the 2000s, the little master revealed another player who had shared the dressing room with him was also a victim of the condition. Sachin’s revelation came during the inaugural function of the Sports Medicine centre at Aster Medicity hospital on Thursday.

However, the master blaster didn’t want to reveal the name of his former teammate but said the latter recovered in four months. “Unfortunately, I was struck with the injury at the beginning of the season, but he got it in the last leg and that helped him recover in 4-5 months. If I had a four-month   break, people wouldn’t have heard of tennis elbow,” said Sachin recollecting the pain he had to endure. He also said the injury had given him several sleepless nights. “Though I tried to get back into action, I was not even able to hold my bat,” said the cricketer.

According to him, a sportsperson always needs right guidance, support and medical attention while facing injuries. “Fortunately, I had a group doctors and physicians around me to take care of me. Now things have changed a lot with more and more research and newer machines. Doctors are able to diagnose much better,” said Sachin.
