KOCHI: The second edition of Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) comes with a film festival in its kitty. The film festival literally offers a different viewing experience to the movie lovers in the city.

‘Vellithira’, the specially designed venue for movie screenings, is reminiscent of the ‘Cinema Kottaka’ of the yesteryears, adding a nostalgic touch to festival.

Visitors said the venue has been built to resemble the cinema halls of yore. They have  been built using thatches which are now almost extinct in the state.

What more, a rare collection of unique films and documentaries will be screened in the coming days at the film festival. The festival has been curated by popular film critic and documentary filmmaker C S Venkiteswaran.

“One of the specialities of the KLF film fest is the presence of writers and directors of almost every movie that we screen here. Mostly, movies and documentaries with a direct link to literature have been given a preference,” said C S Venkiteswaran.

CS used to write a column called ‘Rumblestrip’ for The New Indian Express for nearly a decade from 1999 to 2008. The column was based mostly upon film and the media scene in Kerala. He bagged the National Film Award for Best Film Critic in 2009.

A poster exhibition too has been organised on the sidelines of the festival.

The festival kickstarted on February 2 and will be on till February 5. The screenings start at 10 am everyday. Some of the films being screened are: ‘Kaliyachan’, ‘Documentary on S K Pottekkatt’, ‘Ozhivudivasathe Kali’, and ‘Vellutha Rathrikal’.
