HC moved seeking govt report on resuming classes

KOCHI: The father of a student of Nehru College of Pharmacy has approached the Kerala High Court, seeking a directive to the State Government to file a report on the steps taken to resume classes. Classes have been disrupted ever since Jishnu Pranoy, a student of Nehru College of Engineering, an institution under the same management, committed suicide.

“The college has been closed for the last 40 days, and the higher-ups in the management are facing criminal case for abetment of the suicide. It seems the college is unlikely to be reopened soon. The situation has left the future of the 600 students in peril,” stated the petitioner Rangorath Gokul Prasad, whose daughter is a DPharm student at the college.

“No concerted effort was made by the college or the Nehru College of Educational and Charitable Trust to resolve the issue. It is learned from media reports that the MD of the Trust and the principal, vice-principal and some teachers of the college would be booked for abetting the suicide,” said the petitioner.
