Be positive about finding a blood donor with Cognalys

Cognalys has developed a mobile app that would help people find matching donors within 10 km radius.

KOCHI: One of the most agonizing scenario that plays out almost after every accident is finding the matching blood donor immediately. The wait can be  excruciatingly slow, and this can be the difference between life and death.

Now, Cognalys, a company which is into mobile number verification business, has developed a mobile App that would help users find the matching donors  within 10 km radius.
More importantly, Cognalys is doing this free of cost, as part of their philanthropic initiatives. Aptly named ‘Bpositive’, the Android-based App will have all the information regarding the blood donors, including their mobile numbers, blood groups etc.

“The App works in such a way that if a donor has given his blood recently, his/her details will not pop up in the search. He will be featured only after a certain gap,” explained Paul John, president of Cognalys Inc.
Kerala is one of the top states with maximum number of road accident deaths, and ‘Bpositive’ may be one of the solution to reduce the number of deaths, hopefully.

Added Binoy John Parackal, vice president (marketing) of Cognalys: “We are  holding talks with hospitals such as Aster MedCity, for signing up prospective blood donors. The smartphone users who download the Bpositive will have all the data. “Right now, there are WhatsApp groups, which help those who require blood, but there are limitations in such groups. For one, there is restriction on the number of participants in such groups. Our App is aimed to provide a better solution,” he said.

However, this is not the first time people are trying to use technology for blood-donation/instant matching purposes. For instance, as far back as 2013, a group of IIT-Madras students had developed a mobile app and a website to match people who need blood with those willing to give it, instantly. The Bloodlinelabs.com app helps matching potential donors based on location and blood group and notifies.

The Bpositive app, once launched, will help the users to locate the prospective donors who are within the 10 km radius, thereby saving precious time.
