CPM worker attacked; hartal at Piravom in Kerala

The CPM observed a hartal at Piravom on Tuesday after party worker Ajesh Manoharan, Opposition leader in the Piravom municipality, was attacked by unidentified persons.

KOCHI: The CPM observed a hartal at Piravom on Tuesday after party worker Ajesh Manoharan, Opposition leader in the Piravom municipality, was attacked by unidentified persons.
According to the police, Ajesh was attacked by a gang near Puratharakulam while he was travelling on bike on Monday night.

“They bike-borne assailants attacked him with sticks and sharp weapons. He escaped by taking refuge in a house in the area,” said sources. Ajesh has been hospitalised with  injuries sustained in the attack.
The police have registered a case under Section-307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident. According to sources, political rivalry might be the motive behind the attack.

In a separate incident, the house of an RSS worker was attacked at Pallikavu on Tuesday morning. The attackers broke windowpanes of the house and vandalised a bike parked in the courtyard.
