The Malayalam film industry on Thursday expressed solidarity with writer M T Vasudevan Nair and director Kamal, who have been fiercely criticised by BJP leaders for their stance on demonetisation and the national anthem issue. “Secularism and secularist values still exist in the Malayalam film industry. We hope they would stop attacking our creative freedom,” said FEFKA general secretary Unnikrishnan B after inaugurating a dharna by film workers here on Thursday.

“The Indian culture embraces new values and offers freedom to all. Any effort to disrupt it will be opposed,” said actor-director Renji Panicker. Veteran actor KPAC Lalitha said the Sangh Parivar’s agenda would not do any harm to a renowned writer like M T Vasudevan Nair. Actor Manju Warrier read the solidarity pledge.

Sibi Malayil, Balachandran Chullikkad, Lal, Seven Arts Vijayakumar, Rima Kallingal, Amal Neerad, Anwar Rasheed, Boban samuel, Ranjith Sankar, Ziyad Koker, Sugeeth, M A Nishad, Anoop Menon, Shafi, Vinod Vijayan and Kalavoor Ravikumar also attended the meeting.
