Tutormine: connecting tutors and students

KOCHI: Ever thought of choosing a teacher of your preference from 600 plus tutors, based on their profile, at a time that suits you. What if you are told that the tuition fee will be per session - meaning students are free to discontinue the course if they are not satisfied with the coaching. And the icing on the cake: students can attend the class from the comfort of their living room.

All this is possible now, thanks to Tutormine.com, an e-learning platform launched by Kochi-based Edyounet TeleClassrooms Ltd. “In Kerala, there are large number of highly qualified women sitting at home, looking after their families. Our platform would help them to earn a handsome amount during their spare time. Even retired people and working professionals can earn additional income during their spare time by tutoring students,” explains Ram Mohan Nair, founder and CEO of Edyounet TeleClassrooms.

Tutormine, he explains, is a complete education suit which enables tutors and students to meet and engage in live tuition and transact fee for it. The platform at present has about 600 tutors, which will rise as more and more tutors sign up in coming days and months. “At least 50 tutors are either expressing interest or joining the platform,” he informs.

According to the company, in order to access the facility, the students will have to first register on the website. After going through the profiles of tutors, which contain their academic and professional career details, students can post tuition requests and the same will be flashed to all tutors, who meet the criteria. In response to the requests, tutors can directly contact students and discuss terms and finalise the methodology.

The students will be provided with a virtual classroom software platform, which will enable face-to-face live classroom interactive sessions, after they decide to engage the tuition. The company claimed that the virtual classrooms are more like real world classrooms as students and tutors can see each other and interact. It has a digital writing board, which can be used for writing notes, drawing images and graphs display shapes and symbols.

“Our online tutoring software (OTS) is a technological marvel and has many futuristic features to make online learning really enjoyable and engaging. The prime attraction of OTS is multi-coloured multiple-writing boards. Around 100 such digital boards are incorporated in the OTS. Both tutor and students can write on the digital board,” says Ram Mohan Nair. He adds that the OTS is highly interactive in nature.

The online tuition facility offered by the company has four levels. In the first level, tutors convert entire syllabus into small educational videos and one video will cover an entire chapter of the syllabus. In this pre-recorded classroom teaching videos, tutors teach with the help of digital board, video and audio. The student can join for a live interactive virtual classroom of the tutor in the second phase.

They can clear their doubts and undertake more exercises on the subject in the live virtual classroom. In the third level, the student can take online exams and the results will be published immediately after the tests. In the last level, the student can exchange queries with other students through its socializing feature and they can post their doubts and get answers from their fellow students. “Peer-to-peer learning is the best way of learning and this capability of students is well utilized in Tutormine,” he says.
