KOCHI: The CBI has denied any possibility of homicide in the death of Qazi C M Abdulla Moulavi, the spiritual leader who was found dead on February 15, 2010, at Chembarika beach in Kasaragod.

The CBI’s assessment is based on the examination reports of forensic experts and medical practitioners. In the closure report of the case filed before Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court the other day, CBI Inspector K J Darwin mentioned that three forensic experts, John George, Amod Kumar Singh and Rupali, had examined the possibility of homicide behind Moulavi’s death from July 20 to 22.

“Post the examination, the experts suggested a stronger possibility of suicide than homicide as the cause of Moulavi’s death. A medical board constituted by CBI and comprising three senior doctors of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College also examined the possibility of homicide. Of them, two ruled out homicide as the cause of death. The third doctor is yet to file the report,” said the closure report. Moulavi was the Qazi of 140 mahals in North Kerala and Mangalore.

The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court had previously rejected a closure report filed by CBI following a petition, which termed the facts submitted by CBI to support their claims that Moulavi committed suicide as unscientific.

The CBI Court had also raised suspicions on the fact that others residing at the Qazi’s home woke up only after 10 am on the day of his death, The court had asked the CBI to check whether they had been sedated. However, the CBI did not find any evidence of the other members of the house being sedated.
