KOCHI: Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd stated the company had not violated any condition, based on which it was granted permission to lay optic fibre cable (OFC) in Ernakulam district. During a meeting held to review the progress of various road and bridge projects in the district, Works Minister G Sudhakaran had said the government had decided to withdraw permission given to the telecom company to lay cables since it reportedly violated the condition the roads should not be cut open.
In a clarification note issued on Saturday, the company said all statutory and necessary formalities have been complied with while carrying out the work, and it had permission from the government to dig up roads. “In December 2016, we applied for permission to lay OFC in various areas in Ernakulam.
Consequently, vide an order dated January 5, 2017, sanction was received from PWD Roads and Bridges Division, Ernakulum, for digging up roads through micro trenching along a 3,220-metre stretch. Based on this order, we undertook micro trenching at five locations,” the company clarified.
“Reliance JIO Infocomm is committed to following all rules and regulations laid by the state government and the local government. We have always adhered to the government orders and will continue to do so in the future as well,” a company release said.
