KOCHI: Regular commuters who keep their vehicles in the parking yard of Ernakulam South Railway Station can heave a sigh of relief as they won’t be charged a hefty amount.
The GCDA’s decision to withdraw the hike in parking fees came after the public registered their protest against the new fee structure. With the implementation of GST, the parking fees at the railway stations across the state had gone up by 18 per cent.

“The public have objected to the steep hike in parking fee at Ernakulam South Railway Station. We have received plenty of letters and emails complaining against the increase in parking fee. We have discussed the issue and decided to roll back the hike,” said MC Joseph, secretary, GCDA.The hike in parking fee had hit hard the two-wheeler riders.

The minimum parking fee for two-wheelers (for up to two hours) was increased from `2 to `5. The fee for three-wheelers and cars had gone up to `25, while the new rate for buses and mini-bus was fixed at `120. From 2 to 8 hours, the revised rates were `15, `40 and `250 respectively. For 8 to 24 hours, the revised rates were `20 for bikes, `60 for cars and `360 for buses.
