KOCHI: One day, on the sets of Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhumi, makeup artist A V Ratheesh was surprised to see actor Dulquer Salman picking up the plastic remains littered on the ground. “There was so much plastic cover and plates spread carelessly at the location site where the shooting was completed. It touched me to see an actor like Dulquer take the pains to clear up the garbage,” said Ratheesh who is also the actor’s personal makeup assistant.

It was then Ratheesh, who has been working in the film industry for the past ten years and has associated with Dulquer since Ustad Hotel, decided to make a film on the effects the careless disposal of plastic waste was causing to the environment. The film will released on Monday which is the World Environment Day.

Ratheesh felt that the cinema industry too was turning a blind eye to environmental issues.

“ I have been on different sets working with various actors as part of my work. Even outside the industry, the attitude is the same, which is why I think an awareness on this is the need of the hour,” said Ratheesh.

Thus was born Globe, 15-minute short film which narrates the story of a young boy Nandu and his passion to save the environment. The scene begins with the boy going to a shop to purchase a globe model. On seeing the globe, he realises how sensitive the environment is and how a huge responsibility is laid upon the human race to protect the globe. From then on, he begins to sensitise family and friends on the subject.

Musician Gopi Sundar has done the background score for the film. Child actor Ilhan Layiq plays the lead character Nandu, who shot to fame with movies like Chandrettan Evideya and Kali. Child actor Anaswara, Sumitra Rajan and Mani play the other characters in the film.

Sandeep Nandakumar who has edited movies like Spirit, Aadu Puliyaatom, Bhavuttiyude Nammathil is the editor for Globe. The short film which has been created on a Rs 1.5 lakh budget has been produced under Nirath Productions. Ratheesh is also a mimicry artist and has directed a documentary in the past.
