KOCHI: A car accident six years ago put a break on Mithun Mithran’s life. For someone who was already struggling to make both ends meet, a spinal injury was an unexpected blow. However, not one to easily succumb to challenges, the 31-year old found a unique way to make money, within the confines of his home.
He began tapping social media and learnt that film promotion of stars through Facebook pages was becoming a big thing in Mollywood. “I felt bored sitting idle at home. I didn’t have many job opportunities but since I have always been keenly following technology, I decided to try my luck creating a Facebook page for film promotions,” he says. Mithun’s biggest supporter is his friend Anish Mohan, who continues to help him with promotions.
Mithran came up with a quirky title for his page ‘Smart Pix Media’. The page failed to gain popularity in the first one and a half years. He also faced a Rs 3 lakh loss in the initial days. However, a Swatch Bharat Abhiyan video released by Mithun and Anish, suddenly made their facebook page popular. The page then started gaining attention from people all over the state. It now has 38 lakh followers with 20,000 likes. It is also one of the most successful pages and highly viewed pages in the entertainment category. Mithun, now earns nearly 27 lakh per annum out of Smart Pix Media. “ We didn’t know, this page would become this succesful. I have no regrets,” shares Anish his friend.
The go-getter has also has built a house of his own from the money he earned. His future plans include creating an app under the same title which focuses mainly on photography, promotion and entertainment.
