Monsoon has arrived and so have the associated problems in the city. Water-logging has been reported from many parts of the city where the civic body failed to carry out pre-monsoon cleaning of the drains.

KOCHI:  Monsoon has arrived and so have the associated problems in the city. Water-logging has been reported from many parts of the city where the civic body failed to carry out pre-monsoon cleaning of the drains.


The entire stretch of road to Ernakulam Junction railway station got flooded on Tuesday morning. People approaching the railway station had to wade through knee-deep filthy water. At many other places motorists had to manoeuvre their vehicles carefully to avoid falling into submerged potholes.


According to an expert in weather forecasting, Kerala is likely to get a normal monsoon this year. The city had been receiving a good shower from Monday morning. It rained heavily on Tuesday too, but due to the hartal called in the district traffic was only minimal and hence there were no chaos on the roads.


Meanwhile, a portion of a house collapsed  near Pattalam Ground in the heavy rain on Tuesday. However, no casualties have been reported. A portion of Mohammed Ashraf’s house near Pattalam ground collapsed early morning on Tuesday.

The building, apparently, is an old one. A portion of another building named Big Ben collapsed in Mattancherry. No casualties have been reported.
