‘Gagging dissent, media is state government policy’

AICC spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday alleged the policy of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF Government was to silencing media and dissenters and subjugating transparency.

KOCHI: AICC spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala on Wednesday alleged the policy of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF Government was to silencing media and dissenters and subjugating transparency.

“Much like his approach towards the Canadian company SNC-Lavalin, Pinarayi has a soft spot for NCP MLA A K Saseendran who allegedly engaged in sleaze talk with a woman journalist,” Surejwala told reporters here.

He said the Congress will intensify its agitation against the anti-people policies of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who had been charged with allegedly awarding a contract to SNC-Lavalin for the renovation of three hydel projects, causing a loss of `374 crore to the state exchequer.  Taking aim at the Centre, Surejwala said the Narendra Modi Government had destroyed the country’s economy by implementing an ill-conceived GST amateurishly.

“GST, as envisioned by the previous Congress-led UPA Government, was ‘genuine and simple tax’. However, an opportunity to add two per cent to the country’s GDP has now become a nightmare for the common man and MSMEs,” Surejwala said.He said the double whammy - demonetization and GST – wreaked havoc, while the NDA Government lives in a ‘make-believe cuckoo-world’ and is blinded by the blinkers of ‘achhe din’, unable to see, feel, judge or address the country’s pain.
