KOCHI:  The Kerala High Court on Wednesday closed a contempt of court petition filed by athlete P U Chitra against Athletic Federation of India for not complying with a single judge order to ensure her participation in the IAAF World Championships.  According to the HC, no purpose will be served by continuing with the proceedings initiated on the basis of the petition.

Tendering an unconditional apology, the Athletic Federation of India(AFI) had informed the court it had not violated any orders passed by the court in P U Chitra’s case.  C K Valson, AFI secretary, had submitted on receipt of the order of the single judge, the AFI sought to implement the directive, notwithstanding the fact it had already decided to appeal against the single judge order.
