Kochi: Gold worth Rs 17.42 lakh seized at Nedumbassery airport

In total, 601.800 grams of gold worth Rs 17.42 lakh have been seized under various section of Customs Act.

KOCHI: In two separate incidents, the Air Intelligence team of the Customs Department seized gold worth Rs 17.42 lakh at the Nedumbassery airport on Saturday. In the first instance, a Malappuram native, who arrived from Jeddah, was caught with 199.800 grams of crude gold chain valued at Rs 5,68, 807.

In the second incident, gold jewellery worth Rs 11,44, 730 was seized from another Malappuram native who arrived from Riyad via Colombo. The jewellery weighing 401.100 grams was recovered following an Intelligence information. In total, 601.800 grams of gold worth Rs 17.42 lakh have been seized under various section of Customs Act.

Similarly, Customs recovered gold biscuits worth Rs 25.75 lakh were seized at Thiruvananthapuram airport on Saturday. As many as seven gold biscuits weighing 816.38 grams were intercepted from a passenger identified as Peer Mohamed Liaquat. Last week, Customs had foiled seven gold smuggling attempts at the Nedumbassery airport.
