Kerala ration dealers’ to take out march today

The ration dealers will also shut down rations shops and take out protest marches in front of taluk offices across the state on March 5.

KOCHI:  The All Kerala Retail Ration Dealers’ Association (AKRDA) will conduct a protest march and dharna in front of Maveli Bhavan here on February 26, demanding the government install weighing machines at NFSA (National Food Security Act)-compliant godowns across Kerala and take measures to prevent variation in the quantity of foodgrain supplies to ration depots from the godowns.

The ration dealers will also shut down rations shops and take out protest marches in front of taluk offices across the state on March 5. AKRDA president Johny Nelloor said though the Food Safety Act was implemented in the state last year, ration dealers were receiving inaccurate quantities of foodgrain from godowns. Though inspections at the godowns revealed the discrepancies, the government was yet to initiate any action.
