KOCHI: The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) is all set to introduce passes for regular passengers. A long-awaited facility for daily commuters, it will be a fare product that can be added to the Kochi1 Card to travel between two fixed stations.

The passes will be launched on Thursday at the Edappally station by KMRL managing director Mohammed Hanish at 11.30 am. There will be two types of passes: a 30-trip pass valid for 30 days and a 60-trip one valid for 60 days. The pass for 30 trips will be given a discount of 25 per cent and that for 60 trips will be given a discount of 33 per cent from the original fare, an official statement said.

Only one pass can be added to a Kochi1 Card at a time. The pass can be issued between any two stations chosen by passengers (say Station A & B) at the time of issuance and the trip will be deducted when the passenger travels from either of the stations up to the other station. Entry and exit from same station will also deduct one trip.

"If the entry is made from either Station A or B and the exit is made beyond the other station, the stored value amount will be used. Similarly, if the entry is made at any station other than Station A and B, the stored value will be used. Penalties and other surcharge amounts shall be deducted as per rules applicable for the Kochi1 Card," the release said.

The pass can be issued only on a valid Kochi1 Card with sufficient stored value. In case there is no sufficient balance under the Kochi1 Card for pass purchase, it needs to be topped up. The validity of the pass shall start from the day of issuance.
