De-congest Kochi: Dist Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla to take buses around the city to plan expansion

Safirulla will be undertaking the journey as part of Kochi Public Transport Day which is observed on the first Friday of every month to promote public transport system for 'decongesting' Kochi.

KOCHI: District Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla will take a public bus from Vypeen to High Court Junction on Friday to explore the possibility of extending bus routes to other parts of Kochi.

Safirulla will be undertaking the journey as part of Kochi Public Transport Day which is observed on the first Friday of every month to promote public transport system for 'decongesting' Kochi. The Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) and Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) are organising the event. Safirulla will reach the Ernakulam boat jetty at 8.30 am and take a boat to Vypeen.

After reaching Vypeen at 9 am, the Collector will take a bus from the private bus stand to the High Court Junction. During his journey, Safirulla will interact with daily commuters to understand their transport mobility issues. He will also explore whether the buses starting from Vypeen and terminating at High Court Junction can be extended to the city region.

On reaching High Court Junction at 9.30 am, Safirulla will attend the event organised by the KMRL and hosted by the Greater Cochin Development Watch at Lalan Towers.

In the event, he will honour the Metro passengers with the highest patronage in June by giving them the ‘Shreshtasanchari Puraskaram’.

Besides Safirulla, representatives from various civic agencies, private bus operators, government departments, volunteer groups, residents’ associations and merchant bodies will take part in the Kochi Public Transport Day observance.
