KOCHI: Scanning machines will  become operational at the Cochin Port soon which will ensure transparency and provide speedier container transit through the port.Pullela Nageswara Rao, Customs and CGST Chief Commissioner, Kerala said this while inaugurating a workshop on 'Free Trade Agreements & Safe Guard Duty, Letter of Credit, Bill Discounting & Cargo Insurance' organised by the Ficci here on Tuesday.

"Containers can be scanned in just 36 seconds with the aid of scanners. Thus speedy delivery can be achieved for exports as well as imports. The Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) system will also eliminate the loss of time when the containers can be moved through the Direct Port Delivery (DPD) facility," said Rao.

This will help to fast-track clearance of import/export cargo and bring down the costs. "Exporters and importers  need to be aware of the Free Trade Agreements(FTA) signed with  other countries and then only they will be able to derive the advantage arising out of them  which can give a fillip to exports," he said.
