Need to address harassment at workplace stressed

The workshop conducted by the Self Employed Women’s Association Union (SEWA) at the Collectorate, has raised the need for setting up Local-Level Complaints Committees at the district-level to address

KOCHI: The workshop conducted by the Self Employed Women’s Association Union (SEWA) at the Collectorate, has raised the need for setting up Local-Level Complaints Committees at the district-level to address grievances of women working at several private and public organisations, in Kochi on Friday.

Though the law prevails in the state, proper policies are not framed by the government and the organisations.

“The law came into effect from 2013, and though various institutions agree they have an existing committee to look into issues of women, how far these committees are functional is an important question,” said a member associated with SEWA.

There are two institutions for addressing sexual harassment at the workplace - one is a committee set up at the workplace itself and the other is the local-level committee on the district-level.
