Thevara-Perandoor canal to be cleaned before July 30

The entire Thevara-Perandoor canal, which is one of the major reasons for the waterlogging in Kochi, will be cleaned within nine months.

KOCHI: The entire Thevara-Perandoor canal, which is one of the major reasons for the waterlogging in Kochi, will be cleaned within nine months.

As an immediate measure, the worst affected areas of the canal between GCDA market and P&T Colony and Kammattipadam will be cleaned before July 30.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by District Collector K Mohammed Y Safirulla on Wednesday.

The meeting was convened after the Kerala High Court directed the District Collector the other day to initiate steps to remove the weeds and plastic waste from the canal on a war footing to prevent further flooding.
