Ex-grama panchayat prez jumps off ferry; search on for body

KOCHI:In a bizarre incident, a former grama panchayat president of Elamkunnapuzha panchayat jumped off the Fort Kochi-Vypeen passenger ferry on Tuesday evening.

Police officers with the Mulavukad station said V K Krishnan, 72,  of Vattathara House, Malippuram, had left a suicide note showing he was in emotional distress. He jumped into the sea when the ferry was about to dock. Krishnan was associated with the CPM. Search teams comprising members of the Coastal Police, Marine Enforcement and Mulavukad police station were pressed in to service to trace him. However, their efforts were affected by poor visibility and strong undercurrents.
