KOCHI: The second anniversary of the Nedumpally Residents’ Association was a special event, all credit to the benevolent efforts of KWAcontractor N Rajan, popularly called ‘Rajan Kantrac’ by the local residents. His philanthropy brought to fruition the dreams of six families in Cherakkara: The dream of having a roof above their heads.

“From a young age, I would see several homeless people around my mother’s residence and felt I needed to do something for them,” said Rajan, 62, who has undertaken projects for children. “Financially struggling families in Cherakkara also suffer from other problems. The men of the house are usually unemployed and alcoholic. This is the least I can do for them.”Rajan has constructed three 2BHK houses and renovated three others for the six families in Cherakkara. Rajan also constructed a mini-auditorium and a library for the residents’ association for the anniversary celebration.

Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran inaugurated the new constructions in the presence of Suresh Gopi MP, and MLAs C Divakaran and K Muraleedharan, Congress leader Palode Ravi and novelist George Onakkoor. “The constructions were done in memory of my late mother Lakshmi,” said Rajan. “As long as I’m financially stable, I’ll keep supporting families who are in distress. There are no hidden motives or politics behind the intention. My efforts are aimed at their happiness alone,” he added.
