KOLKATA: Hackers today made an attempt to steal money from Kolkata Municipal Corporation mayor Sovan Chatterjee's wife's bank account.

The mayor and his wife came to know about the unsuccessful attempt after Chatterjee's wife received a text message alerting her against insufficient cash balance, the mayor said today.

Chatterjee then blocked the debit card and lodged a police complaint.

The mayor said that the hackers could not withdraw money from his wife's account since the amount of money they were looking for was, in fact, not in the account.

Meanwhile, in view of the latest Ransomeware cyber attack, the KMC today issued a circular to its employees containing a set of guidelines on how to stave off the attack.
