Fire in Mumbai's Beaumonde Towers which houses Deepika Padukone's flat, actress confirms she's safe

According to officials, the fire was seen around 2.10 pm on the uppermost floors of the building. In no time, thick black clouds of smoke were billowing out.

MUMBAI:  A grade II fire broke out at the top floors of high rise Beaumonde apartment in Worli area on Wednesday. This is the building, where Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone resides, sources said. Fire engines, as well as police personnel, have been rushed to the spot, police sources said.

Heavy smoke was seen emanating from the top floors of the building even as local sources said that no one has been injured in the fire.

According to fire brigade sources, they received the fire call from the Beaumonde building at 14.08 hrs and the first fire engines were rushed to the spot at 14.16 hrs. As soon as the fire officers reached the spot they declared it a level II fire.

Six fire engines and five Jumbo tankers along with one hydraulics platform and an ambulance are at the spot. The fire has been confined to duplex flats on two uppermost floors of the ground plus 33 floors building, the fire officers said.

Two lines of riser system are in operation and approximately 90 -95 people have been rescued safely, they added.

Deepika was not inside the 34-storey Beaumonte building in Prabhadevi area where the blaze emanated from the top floor, according to fire department officials and sources close to the actress.

Deepika has a residence in one floor of the building and office in another but both were unaffected by the fire, said the sources close to her.

The actress later took to Twitter to assure her fans about her well-being and extended gratitude to the firefighters.

"I am safe. Thank You everyone. Let us pray for our firefighters who are at site risking their lives." she wrote.
