Rajan Gurukkal to take over as MGU VC on Monday

Historian Rajan Gurukkal will take over as the new Vice-Chancellor of the MG University on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Historian Rajan Gurukkal will take over as the new Vice-Chancellor of the MG University on Monday.

 The present Vice-Chancellor Jancy James is scheduled to retire on Saturday.

 Rajan Gurukkal retired from the School of Social Sciences of the MG University in May. He held the posts of director and professor at the School of Social Sciences.

 He is now serving as a visiting chair at the Centre of Contemporary Studies at the Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore. He is also working on a project on historical atlas of South India.

 Rajan Gurrukkal completed his post-graduation in History from Calicut University. He did his PhD at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He worked at the Centre for Historical Studies at JNU before joining MG University.

 Gurukkal, a author of numerous books on history, was known as a Left fellow traveller. Governor R.S. Gavai who is also the Chancellor of the MG University issued an order appointing Gurukkal as the Vice- Chancellor the other day.  His wife is Jalaja and son Krishnadas.
