PF pension revision: MP submits memorandum

N Peethambara Kurup MP, has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi regarding the revision of pension amount in the EPF pension scheme.

He said in a press statement here that the pension amount, which varies from Rs 11 to Rs 1,500 per month, had not been revised in the past 17 years, since it was first implemented in 1995.

The EPF pensioners who have spent their entire life in private industrial establishments have been neglected throughout despite the fact they contribute a portion of their savings towards the pension fund.

They are deprived of all the benefits promised to them as per the EPF Act, he said in the statement.

The Union Labour Minister had in December 2011 announced that the minimum pension will be increased to Rs 1,000 but the decision has been put off thrice. He urged the Centre to take a speedy decision on the enhancement of the pension amount, dearness allowance frozen from 2001 onwards, ESI medical benefits etc.
