Short Biography of Muttathu Varkey Soon

State Institute of Languages director M R Thampan had announced the project at the birth anniversary celebrations of the writer

The State Institute of Languages is planning to publish a short biography of noted writer and poet Muttathu Varkey.

“We were planning it for a long time. But we couldn’t find a good author for it. Now we got a good orator as suggested by George Onakkoor. Prof Mathew J Muttom, a relative and a member of Muttathu Varkey Foundation will be the author,” institute director M R Thampan said.

Thampan had announced the project at the birth anniversary celebrations of the writer organised by the  Muttathu Varkey Foundation here on Sunday.

“He attracted a generation to books. Though P N Panicker encouraged reading, Muttathu Varkey was the real person behind this. His works targeted the common man. They were realistic. They portrayed their lives and their dreams,” he said. The book is expected to be published this year.

‘’Mathew J Muttom has promised us that the script will be ready in three months,’’ Thampan said.

The institute has already published 500 similar books on various personalities.

‘’The new generation has a passion of reading fast. And they like to read scientific books and biographies than a novel or a short story,” Thampan said.

Writer George Onakkoor, delivering the keynote address, said that the younger generation is not familiar with Varkey’s works. Muttathu Varkey Foundation president T N Sebastian offered felicitations. Film director Balu Kiriyath handed over a CD on the life of Muttathu Varkey to Plantation Corporation chairman Varghese George.
