Lions to honour 5 eminent people

Lions Club International District 318A will honour five eminent personalities with the ‘Lions Excellence Award 2012-13’ for contributions to their respective fields. KPCC vice-chairperson and former minister for non-resident Keralites affairs M M Hassan will be honoured for excellence in public service, P Surendran, governor of District 318A of Lions Club International, told a news conference here.

Dr M I Sahadulla, chairman and managing director of KIMS Hospital, will be given the Lions Excellence Award for his contribution to the field of health, while Soorya Krishnamoorthywill be given the award for his contribution to the field of art and culture.

Noted actor KPAC Lalitha will be conferred with the Lions Excellence Award and K P Joy, scientist with the Kerala Environment Impact Assessment Authority, will be honoured for his efforts in environment conservation, Surendran said.

The awards will be presented by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday as part of the Melvin Jones Day Celebrations of the Lions Club, he said.
