VS urges government to probe 'corruption' in Horticorp

Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan has urged the government to probe into the alleged rampant corruption in Horticorp. In a statement here on Sunday, Achuthanandan said there was huge corruption in the Horticorp’s purchase of produce.

“The Horticorp was established with an aim to directly purchase vegetables from farmers and to sell it to the public at nominal costs. But now, produce is procured from wholesale agents which involves corruption,” he said. VS said Horticorp was often selling vegetables at prices higher than the market rate. “The govt spends huge amount for the functioning of Horticorp. Rs 15 crore was sanctioned during the last Onam season alone. But the nexus between the officials and wholesale agents has resulted in the denial of benefits to the public,” he said.

VS urged government to take necessary action against corrupt officials in Horticorp.
