A hospitalised Bunty Chor keeping cops on their toes

As many as 22 Rapid Action Force personnel and 10 policemen have been deployed in front of the isolated cell at the sixth ward of the hospital where Bunty is housed

The Mental Health Centre at Peroorkada here is under tight police security with fully armed police personnel - presence of Bunty Chor being the reason.

It now houses hi-tech thief Devinder Singh alias Bunty Chor, who, earlier, had escaped five times from various mental hospitals in similar instances, after pretending to be mentally unstable.

The police are on high alert as the hospital also houses five other convicts from Poojappura Central Jail.

As many as 22 Rapid Action Force personnel  and 10 policemen have been deployed in front of the isolated cell at the sixth ward of the hospital where Bunty is housed.

The ward is under 24-hour surveillance. It has one reserved SI, one head constable and eight CPOs from Peroorkada police station on round-the-clock duty.

According to Jail DGP Alexander Jacob, the doctors have not yet detected any mental ailments in Bunty Chor. They suspect it to be a part of his plan to escape.

“Bunty has escaped nine times - five have been from various mental health institutions”, the DGP said.

The jail authorities have asked the doctors to hand over the test results as soon as possible so that Bunty could be shifted back to the jail. “After the results of his final checkup are out, a decision will be taken on taking him back to jail,” Jacob said.

Bunty Chor was shifted from Poojappura Central Jail to the Mental Health Centre following a court order last week. When he was produced for the hearing of his bail plea, Bunty stated in the court that he was mentally unstable and the court ordered the jail authorities to check his mental fitness.
